Overview

Dr. Nucelio Lemos is an internationally recognized gynaecologic surgeon and researcher specializing in endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, urogynaecology, and complex pelvic disorders. He holds the Friedrichsen-Cooper Chair in Endometriosis and Chronic Pelvic Pain at Sinai Health and is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Lemos cares for patients with some of the most challenging gynaecologic conditions, including severe endometriosis, pelvic nerve disorders, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary tract disorders, pelvic floor dysfunction, and chronic pelvic pain — many of whom have exhausted other treatment options before being referred to his practice. His goal is to restore quality of life through highly specialized, minimally invasive surgery while preserving normal pelvic function whenever possible.

Dr. Lemos is internationally regarded as a pioneer in neuropelveology, an emerging field focused on diagnosing and treating disorders affecting the nerves of the pelvis. His work has helped transform the understanding of chronic pelvic pain and has advanced nerve-sparing surgical techniques that improve function while reducing complications. He is also recognized for his expertise in reconstructive pelvic surgery, including management of pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, mesh complications, and other complex pelvic-floor disorders.

Beyond patient care, Dr. Lemos is dedicated to research, education, and innovation. His research focuses on developing better ways to diagnose and treat chronic pelvic pain, improving surgical techniques for complex pelvic disorders, and applying artificial intelligence to enhance patient care. He has published extensively in leading medical journals and has delivered more than 500 invited lectures worldwide, helping train surgeons in advanced pelvic surgery, urogynaecology, endometriosis and pelvic neuroanatomy.

As the inaugural Friedrichsen-Cooper Chair, Dr. Lemos is committed to building one of Canada’s leading programs in endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and complex pelvic surgery — combining compassionate patient-centred care with research, innovation and education to advance the future of women’s pelvic health.
